Walk into Sephora and you'll see "faux mink" stamped on every lash box. Walk into AliExpress and you'll see "premium silk." Walk into our packaging and you'll see "faux mink synthetic." Why the overlap? Because all lashes on the market today are synthetic — the names describe the texture, not the material.
The actual material
Every "premium" lash on the market today — including ours — is made from PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), a soft synthetic fiber. The differences come from how the fiber is cut, tapered, and treated.
- Faux mink fibers are cut with a tapered end, mimicking the natural taper of a real mink hair. They look soft and feathery.
- Synthetic (older type) fibers are cut flat. They look glossier and more dramatic but less natural.
- "Silk" fibers are usually a marketing term for the same PBT but with a slightly different gloss finish.
What this means for you
Faux mink (what we use):
- Soft, weightless feel — you forget they're on
- Looks natural in daylight and on camera
- Matte to soft satin finish
- Best for everyday wear, work, "no makeup makeup" looks
- Cruelty-free and vegan (no animal involved at any point)
Traditional synthetic / "silk":
- Heavier feel — you'll notice them
- High shine, very visible
- Best for events, photoshoots, drama
- Last longer per use (more reusable) but bend the natural lash if used daily
Why the "mink" name is misleading
Twenty years ago, "mink lashes" actually meant fur from a mink — which is barbaric and we won't go there. Modern brands kept the name for the look while switching to synthetic. So when you see "faux mink," it's a texture description, not the material. Nothing on our shelf or any responsible brand's shelf today involves an animal.
Our take
